Girlguiding Dorset

e-news

May 2022

Hello everyone,

I hope you have had a great Easter break and are now back into the swing of Guiding.

We had a lovely event with afternoon tea for the 2021 awards and recognition event last Saturday.  There was over 500 years of Girlguiding experience in the room that day along with award winners and those who achieved a licence last year.

Trainings

First response

If your first response is coming close to the end you will hopefully be aware of the changes happening.  There are now two ways of completing your first response:

1.     4 hours online (booked through region), a 2 hour face to face course (booked through County) and the e-learning

OR

2.     6 hours face to face learning (booked through County) and the e-learning.

The County first response courses are booked here and we are making them available as soon as our trainers are able to be available.  We are incredibly lucky to have them in our County – Thank you team.

County Events and Activities

The amazing County team have been working really hard on the County Beacon event and we are looking forward to having a good representation of the County there.  I know some of you are holding you own Division events and we hope that these go equally well.  Please let us have some photos of what you are doing.

Elosie, our Adventures and Activities advisor has organised for a maximum of 80 Guides and Rangers to be able to visit the Blandford signals museum.  Don’t forget to register your interest here and give your girls the opportunity to investigate STEM roles: Click here

Holiday Season

As we get into camping and holiday season I am pleased to inform you there is no longer a need to complete a separate Covid risk assessment for residentials.  Covid should however be mitigated for on your normal risk assessment.

I also hope you have all seen the new regulations for Rainbow residentials.

County Office Vacancy

We are continuing to look for someone special to be in the County Office.

If you are interested in the role please contact us on lisa@girlguidingdorset.org.uk

Region Stratedy

You may have noticed our Region Chief Commissioner Team, and Lead Volunteers have launched an ambitious strategy reflecting on the challenges of the past few years, but with optimism and excitement they look to a future as an organisation that truly makes a significant difference to the lives of girls and young women.

Please do take 5 minutes to see what exciting things they have planned and how we can reflect this within County.

For the key strategic headlines in summaryclick here.  If you want to dig a bit deeper to find out what we will be offering, then our full strategy can be found here.

Happy Summer Term

As always if I can help in any way drop me an email on Lisa@girlguidingdorset.org.uk

In the meantime – enjoy the better weather and getting out and about.

Best wishes

Lisa – County Commissioner
